Entrepreneur of the Year 2011
I’m interrupting my regularly scheduled programming to bring you an important update: I’ve just won Entrepreneur of the Year for the second year in a row at the Merton Business Awards, as well as a commendation for Best Small Business.
Last year, when I won this award, we had just found out we were pregnant. In fact, after we came home from the ceremony at the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Club, we skyped our family members to tell them both our bits of good news.
Running a business is no easy task, especially in a recession, so it’s nice to be recognised for all the hard work that goes into it. This award isn’t just for me; it’s also for the people I work with, namely the fantastic Katy Thomson, who we love having as part of our family, and my husband James, who is the best thing that’s ever happened to me (aside from Baby, but he was kind of important in the making of process).
Without them, I wouldn’t have been able to spend so much time with Baby at the beginning of her tender life. I also wouldn’t have had the time to work on this blog that, from the emails I receive, I know has helped a lot of women who are going through similar things to me. I also wouldn’t have time to ponder all my ideas for expanding the Boggio Empire [insert evil laugh]. Now I know why there are so many mumpreneurs – loads of time to think!
I thanked both Katy and James in my speech, but the words I spoke don’t remotely began to describe the depth of my love, admiration, and appreciation for James. So I’d like to say this here and now: James Derbyshire, you are a king among men and the hero of my heart. I literally couldn’t do it without you. You make me laugh everyday, which is the best medicine for everything. We make such a good team and I love raising both our babies with you. This award is yours as much as it is mine.
Well, my King has just sent me a text commanding me to come to bed. Not in a Mickey and Sylvia kind of way, more in a you’re-going-to-be-exhausted-tomorrow-so-stop-blogging kind of way. So I’m going to say adieu in favour of a cuddle with my lovely husband. Night, y’all!
P.S. I’d also like to thank everyone at Morrisons Solicitors, the sponsors of the award, for giving me this great honour.
